After many years of being a faithful member of the audience watching each and every night G4TechTV, following many icons like Leo Laporte, Chris Pirillo, Kevin Rose, Amber MacArthur - the likes of old crew from The Screen Savers and Call for Help with its latest incarnation: Lab with Leo, it is time to cut the cord now. Most of them have been forced off the air over the years, most recent casualty was Leo, when Rogers in Canada cancelled his latest show and there is really nothing left to watch on this channel. I have been watching on and off for a while Attack of the Show with Kevin Pereira and Olivia Mann but their show has got so bad in recent months I got bored of it as well. Amber MacArthur who left Call for Help last year to work for CityTV which was recently bought by Rogers has been let go or left the station after just a few months of working there. It seems like all the real tech gurus are no longer welcome on TV near you. But not all is lost! The future lays with small independent content productions online and that's where you will find them from now on. Another proof of the new trend - Internet TV is here.

Chris Pirillo has a successful presence now on his own live show called Chris Pirillo Live thanks to Ustream.tv Amber MacArthur still does a few podcasts and continue to blog. Plus you can find her on and off with Leo Laporte who is now available online via TWiT Live, his new online TV show. The future of TV is on the Internet where anyone can set up their own "TV station" through providers like Ustream.tv or Stickam.com which allows you to stream live video and audio feed to the worldwide Internet audiences. You can add to the mix a blog, video/audio podcasts asd well as a video via YouTube creating a very successful presence without the big TV networks. If you are already have a decent following advertisers will be knocking on your door, sponsoring shows segments etc. I think the biggest and most interesting thing about doing Internet TV is the ability to have a live audience interaction though many different channels of communication like chat, Skype, e-mail etc.

Called my cable company and cancelled G4TechTV channel - Good Bye G4TechTV, you lost yet another viewer, time for me to move on where the content is - which is online. I am happy to see Leo and others, re-inventing themselves on the Net once more and I wish them all the best of luck. I will be there to watch it. Make sure you check out the shows yourself: TWiT LiveChris Pirillo Live, Tom Green Show among others.

One of the Flickr users remixed BBC footage when the news anchors just look at each other and camera with relief and sit silently waiting for the fade-out calling it: The Day There Was No News. Looks pretty frightening... and in a way refreshing! But we all know that would never, ever happened in reality, because as even there are many days where nothing is newsworthy, the media manage to make something out nothing.

05090801.jpgIt is not a secret that I love walking, all my friends know and sometimes hate me for saying: "No worries it is within a walking distance from here". Five years ago I have moved back right downtown - in the heart of the city so I can sell my car and have everything within a walking distance. There is something liberating about the idea of being right in the middle of things, being able to take a short stroll to store, movie theater or a local bar/club. Even the shopping centre, hundreds and hundreds of other shops, parks, cafes is literally around the corner from where I live now. I walk to the post office and to the library, local pharmacy and the bank is a block away! I love it and I would not want to live anywhere else in the city.

How do you know if where you live or planning to move to is a walking friendly barrio? You can check it out now using a web site called Walk Score. I can proudly say that my neighbourhood is very walkable and my Walk Score is 90! Looking back right now, it makes a lot of sense to me that I made the right choice picking the place I am at moment. No matter if you are a renter or home buyer, before you move somewhere, you should truly take under serious consideration how walkable the area is for you and how much long term impact it will have on your lifestyle and overall costs. Especially in today's uncertain world of gas prices... As a added bonus - living in a walkable neighborhood is good for your health and good for the environment. What's your walk score?

MoveOn.org has posted a petition for media outlets regarding Fox (News) Noise smear campaign about Barack Obama, it reads the following:

"FOX is a Republican mouthpiece, not a legitimate news organization. Real news organizations must reject FOX's smears of Barack Obama, not parrot them and distract Americans from the pressing issues of the day."

You can join the campaign by signing it here. Demand the media stop spreading the anti-Obama FOX virus.

MoveOn letter explains it in more detail:

This week, Barack Obama gave one of the most honest and inspiring speeches on race in American history after weathering days of the media's relentless, divisive, and racially charged attacks. But have you wondered where these attacks came from and why they dominated the news? Reporters like NBC's Tim Russert focused on the "Reverend Wright controversy" only after FOX and other right-wing media did. It happens over and over: FOX airs a right-wing smear and the mass media repeat it. Film director Robert Greenwald just released a short video called FOX Attacks Obama: Part 2 which shows how it happens. We are launching a petition demanding the big networks stop parroting FOX and distracting Americans from real issues. We'll hand-deliver your signatures to major media outlets next week.

The petition, which we're launching with Greenwald's Brave New Films, says: "FOX is a Republican mouthpiece, not a legitimate news organization. Real news organizations must reject FOX's smears of Barack Obama, not parrot them and distract Americans from the pressing issues of the day." The more signatures we deliver, the bigger the impact—so please tell your friends. Media watchdog group Media Matters has chronicled how FOX spent months trying to smear Obama by associating him with Reverend Wright's words.1 Greenwald's new video shows how the attacks successfully migrated to the mass media—Tim Russert repeated Sean Hannity's smears virtually word-for-word! Meanwhile, the big networks all but ignored Pastor John Hagee, whose endorsement John McCain was "honored" and "proud" to receive. Hagee says Katrina was God's punishment for homosexuality, Jews are to blame for anti-Semitism, and Catholicism is the "Whore of Babylon" and "a cult."2 It gets worse. At the same time they relentlessly reported on Obama's pastor, most network journalists also ignored Rick Parsley, a televangelist who McCain called his "spiritual guide" when accepting his endorsement last month. Parsley has said: I do not believe our country can truly fulfill its divine purpose until we understand our historical conflict with Islam. I know that this statement sounds extreme, but I do not shrink from its implications. The fact is that America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed...3 Ignoring McCain's spiritual advisers while going after Obama's is what we expect from FOX, which is more a Republican mouthpiece than a real news organization. But when real news outlets follow FOX's lead, we have to hold them accountable. Otherwise, FOX will continue to elevate smear after smear against Democrats into the mass media in 2008.

According to a new study recently done by researchers at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne who were looking into the psychological benefits of blogging came out with results that bloggers tend to feel more connected with a particular community. They also feel that they have a larger social support system behind them compared with those who do not blog. The same applies to social networking sites like Facebook or MySpace. Blogging can help you feel less isolated, more connected to a community and more satisfied with your friendships, both online and face-to-face, new Australian research has found. They were also more likely to use venting or expressing your emotions as a way of coping. Could blogging be used as a form therapy for those who feel isolated, misunderstood or lonely? It is possible, those who do blog frequently seem to have high sense of self worth and higher self esteem. I guess it is not all about ego, or is it?

Internet services have been disrupted in parts of the Middle East following damage to an undersea cable in the Mediterranean, according to reports from major news networks. It appears that there is a disruption to 70% of the nationwide network in Egypt due to a faulty undersea cable which links Palermo, Italy and Alexandria in Egypt. Due to this failure there is huge impact on many other countries in the region like the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Even India has lost about 60% of their internet access today. The repairs may take a while so for now they are trying to fix the issues by re-routing the Internet tracking using other routes and satellites. Impact could be huge not only on communications but also on economy if this issue is not resolve as soon as possible.

The Courchevel Altiport is located on the top of the French Alps, it is world's most difficult airport to land and take off from. The entire runaway is a mere 1,700 feet and has a 18% steepness gradient. It looks like a ski slope covered by a runway and ending with nothing more than cliff so there is no room for any pilot error. Arriving or leaving it is an adventure in itself (besides skiing you can there).

If you own a personal computer and spend plenty of time on the Internet, you are fully aware of potential issues when it comes to online security. Having a good anti-virus and firewall on your machine is essential nowadays to prevent an unauthorized access to your files and avoid any problems with many viruses which circulate and can be very damaging to your PC.

One of the big Internet security companies called Agnitum which offers high quality security software products for computers came up with a very clever marketing gimmick lately. Agnitum Security Horoscope is an entertaining description of each of the Zodiac signs and their behaviors online, including attitude to Internet security based on surfing habits among others. It is a fun way of figuring out where a person’s security strengths and weaknesses are simply based on their horoscope. Since we are all different, our approach to risk taking and overall behaviors varies quite a bit, with their horoscope you can learn a little more about yourself. Plus if you have a your own web site or a page / profile, they even allow you to grab a small piece of code for it so you can display your personal horoscope. Here is an example of it:

After my recent trip to Argentina and Uruguay, I realized I really need a better way to handle a few hundred photographs at the same time. I needed a good, simple but effective workflow when it comes to organizing, renaming and processing image files. I decided to have a second look at the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and I fell in love it after just a week of exploring what it can do for me. In all honesty, the first time I encountered Lightroom when it came out, I did not take the time to truly see its full potential.

But this month I have imported all my photos from a backup into it, all 8,000+ of photographs while grouping them into set/collections, renaming the files, adding tags and so much more. Actually the whole process was so easy and simple, it took no more a day. I must say that Matt's blog and podcast has been a great resource so far when it comes to learning about Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and its powerful, yet simple interface.

Recently, I have started to explore its additional modules, mainly one called: Web. I have already all of my photos available for viewing on Flickr, but since I have a web site / blog on a remote server with a tone of space available to me, I thought I should utilize it and add my own online galleries at the same time in addition to Flickr. After playing with different templates and their options, I picked the one which I feel would work the best for me and within couple of minutes I had my first online gallery uploaded and available online!

One the biggest advantages of Lightroom is the ability to create and/or download presets for each of its modules, and the Web module is no different. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Galleries is one those sites where you can download a variety of alternate web template themes that work perfectly well in Lightroom. Once you download and install a new template the rest of the process is simple. Lightroom not only allows you to create your own galleries, but also once you enter your FTP information for your server, it will upload them for you. I am now 100% convinced that this is of one the most brilliant and must-have piece of software for anyone who does digital photography.

Since I have decided to create a separate gallery for each collection/set of photographs, I will host them all under one roof using a subdomain and central page to access all of the galleries. It should be finished in about a week or so, in the mean time I am creating and uploading all the galleries onto the server first. Once I have done that, I will create a simple directory page to access them. In the mean time if you want to see one of the galleries in action - click here for gallery from Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. When the project is finished I will post the link to the main gallery page at the later date so all galleries will be available for viewing. And if you still have any doubts about Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, spend some time and get to know it better. You will not be disappointed!

Bryan Gardiner (wired.com) reports that Google has optimized its popular Picasa photo service for the iPhone. He quotes Google software engineer Joe Walnes as saying: "Today, I'm happy to tell you that we've just released this new iPhone interface for Picasa. After you go to Picasa on your iPhone and log in, you can quickly see all your albums that you've uploaded to Picasa web. If you click on any of the albums, you can get a full view of your picture with comments from your friends." Now if we could get an iPhone in Canada that would be nice, hopefully in 2008 a new 3G iPhone will arrive here.
