Video from Beaches Jazz Festival 2008 in Toronto, Canada

07270801.jpgBeaches Jazz Festival 2008 was a huge success like each and every year! Everyone had a blast during the closing street fest this weekend. For the first time I decided not shoot the event but rather just enjoy it like everyone else (except a few snapshot and video of course).

I really enjoyed Mae Cromwell performance this year, she is a lot of fun every year. I managed to capture three songs on video which I will post here today (see it below) and for the remaining next couple of days...

07260801.jpgLast night I strolled around Yonge & Dundas Square and along Yonge St (which was closed for the traffic) during Just For Laughs Festival happening all this weekend. Unfortunately the whole experience was very disappointing, sure there were a few street performances here and there, but hardly anything interesting for most people. Many seemed to walk around thinking why they even closed the street for the night, put all the flashy lights while there was hardly anything happening. There was only one performance which draw some crowd by a French troupe Transe Express Circus, but it was due to drumming orchestra making all the noise for about half an hour. In a nutshell - it was total waste of time and money (city money that is), I wish the city would re-think how they plan and execute this type events in the future. Lat year event was much better in my opinion. I took a few photos (above - more on Flickr) and video (below) - but nothing really spectacular.

070608008.JPG07060809.JPGYesterday, after I finished book shopping (I have to stock up on books so, I got something to read when I am in Europe this Fall), I stopped by the Afrofest 2008 at the Queen's Park. It was packed with people, great music and food, not to mention awesome little shops were set up for the event with all African-style things from: cloths to sculptures and much, much more... I shot couple of video clips and took a few photos when I was there.

07060802.jpgYesterday when I was getting back home from the Harbourfront (after running into Pele), I stumble upon the second annual Race for Dignity Challenge at the Yonge-Dundas Square. Loud drums were a big draw for many onlookers and I am sure it help a lot for those who participated in this event trying to raise money for people in Malawi so they have greater access to Dignitas's medical services, including life-saving medications and HIV prevention knowledge. The Race for Dignity Challenge spinathon on stationary spin bikes kicked-off at Yonge-Dundas Square at noon for 10 hours, and featured 10 hours of live onstage entertainment including musicians, dancers, and spoken word artists. Finally had a moment today sit down at the Toronto's Harbourfront and test the time-lapsed photography feature in my new pocket Canon PowerShot SD870IS. Using my Gorillapod I set up the camera overlooking the lake (it's a Canadian holiday so there are more people out on the water than normally on Tuesday) and let it run for 10 min. shooting every 2 seconds. The result straight from the camera is below - it produced a nicely captured, time-lapsed 20 second video.

In other words, if I were to leave it on for a full hour (unfortunately, my battery was running low already today), I would have got a 2 min. worth of time-lapsed video instead of 20 seconds. Next time, where I am somewhere where it is busy, I will try it again and read a book for an hour while the camera is shooting... Pretty neat feature to have, it would be great to shoot like this things like flower opening or may be busy highway from above or speeding clouds across the sky! The best part is I do not have to do any post production on it, it is ready straight out of the camera...

I have been always drawn to water, any type of body of water. I love sitting by it, watching and listening to the waves. I spent a day reading a new book by it today as well. Above it snapshot of my day by the water, across from the city of Toronto, close to the Toronto Islands.
