Good bye G4TechTV

| | Comments (2)
After many years of being a faithful member of the audience watching each and every night G4TechTV, following many icons like Leo Laporte, Chris Pirillo, Kevin Rose, Amber MacArthur - the likes of old crew from The Screen Savers and Call for Help with its latest incarnation: Lab with Leo, it is time to cut the cord now. Most of them have been forced off the air over the years, most recent casualty was Leo, when Rogers in Canada cancelled his latest show and there is really nothing left to watch on this channel. I have been watching on and off for a while Attack of the Show with Kevin Pereira and Olivia Mann but their show has got so bad in recent months I got bored of it as well. Amber MacArthur who left Call for Help last year to work for CityTV which was recently bought by Rogers has been let go or left the station after just a few months of working there. It seems like all the real tech gurus are no longer welcome on TV near you. But not all is lost! The future lays with small independent content productions online and that's where you will find them from now on. Another proof of the new trend - Internet TV is here.

Chris Pirillo has a successful presence now on his own live show called Chris Pirillo Live thanks to Ustream.tv Amber MacArthur still does a few podcasts and continue to blog. Plus you can find her on and off with Leo Laporte who is now available online via TWiT Live, his new online TV show. The future of TV is on the Internet where anyone can set up their own "TV station" through providers like Ustream.tv or Stickam.com which allows you to stream live video and audio feed to the worldwide Internet audiences. You can add to the mix a blog, video/audio podcasts asd well as a video via YouTube creating a very successful presence without the big TV networks. If you are already have a decent following advertisers will be knocking on your door, sponsoring shows segments etc. I think the biggest and most interesting thing about doing Internet TV is the ability to have a live audience interaction though many different channels of communication like chat, Skype, e-mail etc.

Called my cable company and cancelled G4TechTV channel - Good Bye G4TechTV, you lost yet another viewer, time for me to move on where the content is - which is online. I am happy to see Leo and others, re-inventing themselves on the Net once more and I wish them all the best of luck. I will be there to watch it. Make sure you check out the shows yourself: TWiT LiveChris Pirillo Live, Tom Green Show among others.

i've followed your blog for a while because of your photos... but this post has cast a whole new light upon you. i too was and always will be a Kate and Leo fan and followed the demise of TechTV. All is not lost; TwitLive Revision3 Cranky Geeks... techTV lives on.

I am really glad both Leo and many others from the old TechTV crew moved on from the station onto the Internet now, I am and will continue to watch them but in front of my computer from now on rather than on TV.
