Title: "Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona, El Barri Gotic, Barcelona, Spain"

The Royal Academy of Arts Good Barcelona (in Catalan: Royal Academy of Bones Lletres Barcelona) is an academic institution founded in Barcelona in 1729 under the name Academy, obtaining the title of Royal in 1752 and placed under the patronage of the Crown of Spain to charge, among other tasks, developing the dictionary Catalan. Following the model of other royal academy focused its tasks in a restricted circle of activities, in this case about the language and literature. He created five chairs that made possible the return of the University of Cervera to Barcelona. It had among its members with brilliant personalities of the Rebirth: philosophers d'Eixalà Marti, Francesc Xavier Llorens i Barba, Josep Torras i Bages, the philologists and writers Joaquim Rubió i Ors, Manuel Mila i Fontanals, Marià Aguiló, Josep Balari i Jovany Josep Lluis Pons i Gallarza and Jacinto Verdaguer. The Academy bilingualism practiced throughout the nineteenth century, with a clear predominance of Spanish. However convened in 1841 and 1857, two competitions poetic who served for the restoration of the Floral Games. In 1884, with the publication of the Spelling of the Catalan language of Balari i Jovany, A. Blanch and Antoni Aulestia Pijoan, the Academy adopted as the standard for the Catalan language, although not spelling was largely accepted. It was not until the 1930's when the Academy abandoned those standards thanks to the efforts of Ramon Miquel i Planas and Francesc i Matheu Fornells. At present (2007), the Academy depends on funding from the municipality of Barcelona and the Generalitat of Catalonia and focuses on studies filológicos and Catalan literature, with its headquarters in the street Bisbe Caçador. It has an extensive library, conference room and publishes various publications related to their activity. (source Wikipedia)
