Money and happiness

In the resent study you learn more about the above topic:

People are happier when they spend money on others than when they spend it on themselves, a new study by researchers in Canada and the United States suggests. "Our results suggest that how people spend their money is at least as important for happiness as how much they earn," co-author Lara Aknin, a master's student at the University of British Columbia told CBCNews.ca via e-mail. "Therefore, small alterations in your spending choices — even small amounts — can have a significant impact on your happiness level."

Many people, including members of my own family, some friends and people I simply know of, still live in an illusion that they can buy themselves happiness. Possessing and owning is by far the biggest misconception when it comes to feeling fulfilled in life. In reality these people are one of the most miserable and unhappy ones, I have ever seen, always wanting more and more, never satisfied with what they already have. Living above their own means, constantly worrying about everything, often have trouble sleeping at night and work themselves in death just impress the world and show how "successful" they pretend to be.

The real pleasure is giving and helping others - giving what can and when you can, it makes others happy and in turn you get a satisfaction you were able to make someone else feel better or potentially help them in life. Some say that money is at the root of all evil, I think there is a sweet truth to it especially when you add another component to it: "human ego" and you have a nice mixture of suffering for years to come, potentially for the rest of your life if you do not release it. So next time, think of others, give what you can, you will notice that difference in a long run. Stop chasing after everything you want or "must-have" as material possessions will not make you feel any better about yourself. They are simply empty in itself, it is really all about who you are and not what you have got...
