Everywhere Magazine
Surprise! You got a new magazine in the mail... well I did not ask for it but it came so I thought I will have a closer look at it. Everywhere Magazine is a new magazine from the same publisher who is making JPG Magazine for which I actually do have a subscription hence the reason why they send me their first complimentary copy of Everywhere.

What is Everywhere Magazine anyway? It appears to be a little brother (or sister or twin) of JPG. It is also a photography magazine but dedicated to travel photography. It looks like it will be published on a bi-monthly basis. As JPG Magazine, the content in it is "reader driven concept" where those who like both travel and photography (who doesn't nowadays) are welcome to visit their web site and submit both their photographs and travel articles. The magazine community votes on the best stories and photos, magazine editors put the final issue together based on what and who received the most votes. Those people who get their content published are paid and receive a free one subscription to the Everywhere Magazine for one year. Plus the publisher makes money on all the advertising in between the pages. Pretty simple concept which worked well for JPG Magazine before.

The big question is if there is really any more room for yet another travel / photography related magazine on the newsstands. There seems to be hundreds of them already. But I can see that some people who are very determined to get published, in fact will provide a good reader base to support the magazine. Stories included in the first issue are short with a few photos attached all within a page or so. There is really nothing in it that I could not find elsewhere. In all honesty, the publishing business is a dying breed with most of the news, information and editorials available online for free. You can find similar stories on many free travel web sites, including photos. Magazines and newspaper subscriptions have been in sharp decline for while now thanks to the content on Internet which can be easily accessed in a timely fashion with most up to date info. Flickr is a perfect source of stunning travel photography as well. But "ya never know" when it comes those new web / publishing concepts, time will show if this is going to be success. I am still getting my JPG magazine, it looks like it has survived the first year and half or so in business. Either way, if you are interested in travel magazines, you may consider giving it a try, you can save $10 off regular subscription price by going to:
Unfortunately they charge $5.00 more for the subscription if you are in Canada, where our dollar is actually at the parity with US dollar and often worth more actually (like today). This is pretty much common nowadays with most of the US magazines (many of them which are actually printed here). So there are NOT getting my business... price should be at least the same for both US and Canadian customers!

Tyson - If you look at the existing travel titles, there is a real lack of personal and authentic travel information. Most are stuffed full of advertorial and cover the same exotic five star beach resorts that most of us will never visit. Our goal for Everywhere is a more accessible travel magazine with insights and inspiration from a diverse online community. And sure you'll find a lot of great travel photos on Flickr, but the magazine provides a visual richness and serendipity that you don't find online. That is why our magazines are designed to be visual and inspirational, and if you want more details about a particular destination, you can find more online at everywheremag.com or other sites. But the magazine can provide that initial inspiration.
Lastly, our subscriptions prices for JPG and Everywhere are higher in Canada due to higher mailing costs - not because of any currency exchange (they're priced in USD anyways, so its even cheaper for you now!). The newsstand cover price for both JPG and Everywhere has also been adjusted in the upcoming issues so its $5.99 in US or Canada.
Hope you continue to enjoy JPG, and keep an eye on Everywhere as we grow.
